The Dukes of Hazzard might not be long on Amazon Prime due to the current social climate. The long-running and critically acclaimed hit show featured two southern brothers and their escapades through rural Georgia while running moonshine.

It hosts one of the most iconic cars in television – the General Lee. When the show first came out, the car represented rebellion. However, as many in the southern states have adopted the flag to mean the same thing, others have used it as a symbol of hate.

The Dukes of Hazzard Created the General Lee

General Lee is one of the main characters of the Dukes of Hazzard. The 1969 Dodge Charger has a bright orange paint job and the Confederate Flag emblazoned on the roof. The vehicle was often seen jumping hay bales and blasting the first twelve notes of “Dixie.” It’s the kind of iconic car that any car collector would love to have.

The US is currently experiencing one of the largest human rights movements in its history. After the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, as well as a slew of other racially motivated murders, many have come to recall the flag as a symbol that does not represent American values.

Amazon, the world’s largest company, has decided that it will rethink having the Dukes of Hazzard on its streaming platform. They are to discuss whether the show will remain on its streaming platform. Due to the increase in public awareness of what the flag on the General Lee represents, the platform has received numerous complaints in regard to the removal of the program.

The Confederate flag has its roots in the American Civil War. The war between the North and the South was historically for the freedom of slaves. The humanitarian efforts of the North emerged victorious against the efforts of the southern states, whose industry was based on slave labor. The flag was then adopted by the Ku Klux Klan as a symbol of hate and fear, which is why Amazon is contemplating the removal of the widespread critical show.
